Ethica Capital LTD · Applies to the Ethica customer mobile app and the Ethica customer portal
This page explains how to ask Ethica Capital LTD (“Ethica”) to close your customer account and delete the personal data associated with it, and what happens to your information when you do. It reflects Section 8.4 (Right to Erasure) and Annex 1 (Data Retention Schedule) of our Data Privacy and Protection Policy.
How to request deletion
- Send an email to info@ethicacapitalltd.com or compliance@ethicacapitalltd.com with the subject line “Account deletion request”.
- Send it from the email address registered on your account, and include your full name and your Ethica Customer ID (shown on your profile in the app). For your protection we will verify your identity before acting, and may ask for additional confirmation.
- You may also submit the request by post or in person at our office (address below), using the Data Subject Request Form described in our privacy policy.
We acknowledge every request within 3 business days and complete it within 30 days (extendable by a further 30 days for complex cases, with notice to you). If any part of the request cannot be fulfilled, we will explain why in writing, together with your right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
What happens when your account is deleted
- Your access to the Ethica mobile app and customer portal is closed, your sign-in credentials are disabled, and any registered devices and biometric sign-in registrations are revoked.
- You will no longer receive marketing communications, and any marketing consent is withdrawn.
- Data that we are not required to keep is securely deleted or anonymised.
- Before the account can be closed, any active investments must be liquidated or transferred, and any pending transactions completed, in line with your investment agreement.
Important: some records must be kept by law. Ethica Capital is licensed and regulated by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Nigeria, and is bound by SEC rules and anti-money-laundering (AML/CFT) regulations that require licensed firms to retain customer identification and transaction records after a relationship ends. Where this applies, deletion is not possible; instead the records are archived with restricted access, no longer used for any other purpose, and securely deleted when the retention period expires.
What is deleted and what is retained
| Data | On deletion request | Retention period |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-in credentials, registered devices, biometric sign-in registrations, app session data | Deleted | Removed when the account is closed |
| Marketing preferences and consent records | Deleted (marketing stops immediately) | Consent records kept 7 years as evidence of consent history |
| Profile photograph and other optional information not required by regulation | Deleted | Removed when the account is closed |
| Identity and KYC records (name, contact details, ID documents, BVN/NIN, bank account details, signature, next of kin, source of wealth) | Retained — archived | 7 years after the end of the relationship (SEC Regulations, AML/CFT Requirements, NDPA 2023) |
| Investment and transaction records (subscriptions, top-ups, liquidations, statements, payment receipts) | Retained — archived | 7 years from the transaction date (SEC Regulations, ISA 2025) |
| AML/CFT records (due-diligence checks, PEP screening) | Retained — archived | 7 years after the relationship ends (AML/CFT Regulations, NFIU Requirements) |
| Support correspondence and communication records | Retained — archived | Up to 7 years depending on content |
Retention periods may be extended where records are subject to a legal hold, ongoing litigation or a regulatory investigation. When a retention period expires, archived records are securely deleted or anonymised in accordance with our Data Retention and Disposal Schedule.
Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account
Uninstalling the Ethica app removes it from your phone but does not close your account or delete your data with us. Face ID and fingerprint data never leave your device and are removed by your phone when the app is uninstalled; to close the account itself, please follow the steps above.
